1985 – Clinical use of the first generation of implants with Conical Seal Design and Connective Contour is initiated in a study at the Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm, Sweden.
1989 – The idea of blasting the implant surface with titanium dioxide particles to increase bone growth and osseointegration is presented and the TiOblast surface is born.
1990 – A team at the University of Oslo, Norway, conceives the concept of using a fluoride-modified implant surface to help speed up the osseointegration process. As a result, the first experimental pre-clinical studies on OsseoSpeed are initiated in 1993. In 2000, the first patient receives an OsseoSpeed implant at the University of Oslo. The first and only chemically modified implant surface – OsseoSpeed – is launched in 2004 at EAO in Paris.
1991 – The idea of minute threads on the implant neck to ensure positive biomechanical bone stimulation and maintained marginal bone level is born – MicroThread. After comparing 840 threads of different shapes and sizes, the optimal profile for positive stress distribution is identified.
2007 – Atlantis patient-specific CAD/CAM abutments are introduced for the Astra Tech Implant System.
2010 – OsseoSpeed TX is launched. TX stands for tapered apex and it is introduced on the complete implant assortment.
2011 – OsseoSpeed TX Profile, the unique, patented implant that is anatomically designed for sloped ridges, is introduced.
2014 – Introduction of the Astra Tech Implant System EV. The design philosophy of the implant system is based on the natural dentition utilizing a site-specific, crown-down approach. Featuring a unique interface with one-position-only placement for Atlantis patient-specific CAD/CAM abutments.

OsseoSpeed Profile EV is specifically shaped for efficient use of existing bone in sloped ridge situations.
OsseoSpeed Profile EV 360 degree bone preservationIt is well documented that crestal bone resorbs after tooth extraction or tooth loss.
Often resorption is pronounced on the buccal side, resulting in a lingual-to-buccal sloped ridge. This situation occurs even if a standard implant is immediately placed in the extraction socket.
Because bone-to-implant support is three-dimensional, it is important to have marginal bone support around the entire implant.
Preserving the buccal and lingual marginal bone in a sloped ridge situation will also positively influence mesial and distal marginal bone levels, which optimizes soft tissue esthetics.
This is what we mean by 360° bone preservation in sloped ridge situations.
When a standard implant is placed level with the lingual bone, the implant neck is exposed buccally, compromising soft tissue esthetics.
When a standard implant is placed level with the buccal bone, unsupported lingual marginal bone is lost.

OsseoSpeed EV implants are available in a versatile range of shapes, diameters and lengths for all indications, including situations with limited space and/or bone quantity.
The surgical tray design with three interchangeable overlays allows for adaption of tray content according to your clinical preferences. The Astra Tech Implant System EV surgical tray features a unique tray design with interchangeable overlays. These overlays allow you to adapt the tray content according to your clinical preferences.

The Astra Tech Implant System EV implant system has been developed to simplify all phases of your dental implant therapies, especially the restorative phase. The wide range of restorative components will assist you in providing esthetics and function to your patients.
Based upon the natural dentition utilizing a site-specific, crown-down approach, these components are designed to help support all clinical situations and soft tissue sculpturing requirements for final restorations, including round and triangular options.
For ease of use, Astra Tech Implant System EV features an innovative, one-position-only placement for Atlantis patient-specific CAD/CAM abutments. The interface design also allows for abutment placement flexibility – six-positions for indexed pre-fabricated abutments, and free rotation of non-indexed abutments.
Self-guiding impression components simplify the impression-taking procedure, because they require only one hand for precise seating. When tightening the screw, the component rotates into position and engages into the implant only when correctly seated. This innovative design provides a predictable and time-efficient installation procedure.
All final abutments are designed for one tightening torque value of 25 Ncm for simplicity reasons. In addition, each abutment screw is optimally designed to ensure correct pre-load and a stable screw joint over time.
These abutments function as the retentive base for cement- or screw-retained crowns and bridges. You also have the opportunity to sculpture soft tissue allowing you to harmonize the final abutment margin with the soft tissue shape.
Can be used as a provisional solution either as it is, or as a base for building a temporary restoration
There are a number of solutions to support your cemented-retained crown and bridge restorations. Following the site-specific, crown-down approach, you can choose abutments for esthetics, function, or a combination of both. One-position-only, six-position, or non-indexed abutments correspond to the internal connection of Astra Tech Implant System EV and are color-coded to match implant connection size.
By utilizing the unique Atlantis VAD (Virtual Abutment Design) software, abutments are individually designed from the final crown shape and precision machined. The abutment is designed and produced to provide function and esthetics, and further modifications are not recommended.
TiDesign EV and ZirDesign EV are two-piece anatomically pre-designed abutments. The design and dimensions are based upon the natural dentition utilizing a site-specific, crown-down approach. The round and triangular options mimic a variety of tooth shapes and are harmonized with the soft tissue sculpturing created by the corresponding healing abutment:
Round – design for the majority of restorative situations.
Triangular – primarily for incisors and canines with triangular shape.
Angled – for offset situations compensating for implants in a restoratively unfavorable position.
The CastDesign EV is a non-oxidizing high precious abutment designed and manufactured at the laboratory. CastDesign EV is for fabrication of a customized abutment for cement-retained restorations, using regular wax-up and cast-to techniques. Can compensate for angulations up to 30°.
Direct Abutment EV is a one-piece abutment designed to meet clinician demands for conventional crown and bridge procedures and restorative simplicity. They are available in different diameters and heights, mimicking preparations of natural teeth. Delivered sterile.
Direct Abutment EV API (All Parts Included) includes all necessary components for the restorative and laboratory procedures, including pick-up, healing cap, replica and burnout cap. Delivered non-sterile.
Abutments for screw-retained restorations offer the convenience of removability to final prosthetic restorations. Both single- and multi-unit restorations are possible using these abutments, and you can use them to correct for non-parallel implants. Two options are available for single-unit restorations.

Atlantis Crown Abutment is an abutment for single-tooth, screw-retained restorations. Atlantis Crown abutments will only seat in one-position-only on OsseoSpeed EV implants.
CastDesign EV is used for fabrication of a customized abutment for screw-retained single unit restorations, using regular wax-up and cast-to techniques. CastDesign EV is a non-oxidizing high precious alloy – designed and manufactured in the laboratory.
There are several alternatives available for creating attachment-retained overdentures for your patients on Astra Tech Implant System EV. These solutions include splinted and non-splinted solutions. The top-of-the-line constructions on splinted implants are produced by Atlantis suprastructures, consisting of CAD/CAM titanium or cobalt-chrome restorations. For non-splinted restorations, you can choose from several common attachment options.
Uni Abutment EV has a solid prosthetic interface with a 33° top cone and a M1.8 mm Bridge Screw EV. The design facilitates non-parallel implant situations up to 66°.

The OsseoSpeed Profile EV implant has a unique interface with one-position-only placement of all indexed components for a simple and accurate workflow and includes an option for index-free placement of one-piece abutments.
The indexing portion of the interface has six slots, five symmetrically placed and one additional slot which is located towards the highest point of the implant collar.
