Thai Program
The Eighth Annual Dental Association of Thailand/DENTSPLY
Student Clinician Program conducted in Thailand took
place in the nation's capital city of Bangkok on December
14, 2005. It featured 35 students in 12 different teams,
which represented five of the nation's dental schools.
The official representatives of each university received
an expense-paid trip to Bangkok, courtesy of DENTSPLY
Thailand, to take part in the program.
Ms. Kanokrat Chanthadansuwan from Chaing Mai University
claimed the First Place Award for her team's presentation
titled “Effect of irrigant solutions to shear
bond strength of resin cements in root canals.”
She will attend the 148th Annual Session of the American
Dental Association in Las Vegas, Nevada from October
16 - 20, 2006 as an honored guest of the Company.
The Second Award of 10,000 Thai Baht (approximately
$250 U.S.) went to Mr. Chalut Asavasuwan from Mahidol
University for his team's clinic on “Effect of
propolis of human gingival fibroblast: An in vitro study.”
George Rhodes, DENTSPLY's Vice President for Professional
Relations and Corporate Communications, hosted an Awards
Reception at the Sofitel Central Plaza Hotel attended
by dignitaries from both the Dental Association of Thailand
and all the nation's dental schools.
Ninth
Indian Program
The city of Ludhiana, in the Indian State of Punjab,
was the site of the 59th Indian Dental Congress (IDC)
and the Ninth Indian Dental Association/DENTSLY Student
Clinician Program. This program took place on January
26 and featured 22 students who represented dental schools
throughout India. The students received an expense-paid
trip to Ludhiana and the IDC, courtesy of DENTSPLY India,
to participate in the program.
Mr. Anuj Aggarwal from the Santosh Dental College received
the First Place Award for his clinic titled “Self-fabricated
fibre-glass based post system.” He was also invited
to attend the forthcoming Annual Session of the American
Dental Association at Las Vegas in October as an honored
guest of the Company.
The Second Award of 25,000 Indian Rupees (approximately
$500 U.S.) went to Ms. Garima Ruhela from the Maulana
Azad Dental College and Hospital for her presentation
on “To develop a semi-adjustable impression tray.”
Ms. Naina Talwar from the I.T.S. Centre for Dental Sciences
earned the Third Place Award of 12,500 Indian Rupees
(approximately $250 U.S.) for her clinic titled “Ergonomics
- saving our spine.”
An Awards Dinner was hosted on the evening of the competition
and was attended by many dignitaries from the Indian
Dental Association and the nation's dental academics.
Judges for this year's Program included Dr. Keki Mistry,
Director and Advisor of the D.Y. Patil Dental and Medical
Deemed University; Dr. D. N. Kapoor, Principal and Dean
of the Kothiwal Dental College; Professor Mahesh Verma,
Principal at the Maulana Azad Dental College and Hospital
and Dr. Ragini, Principal at the I.T.S. Centre for Dental
Sciences.
Dr. Patrick J. Ferrillo, Jr. was invited from America
to serve as a Guest Judge and Chairman of the Judging
Panel. Dr. Ferrillo is the current Vice Provost, Division
of Health Sciences, and Dean at the University of Nevada
at Las Vegas. On July 1, he will become Dean at the
University of the Pacific Dr. Arthur A. Dugoni School
of Dentistry in San Francisco, CA.
