Increasingly there is an interest in the public for metal free restorations that are lifelike in appearance and strong. Technologically, combining strength and esthetics has been a challenge as the materials that impart strength to ceramic are often opaque. With the introduction of zirconia products in the lexicon of esthetic restorations, dentistry has broadened the choices to include an all-ceramic crown that has high strength and the potential of natural esthetics. This presentation will look at the possible uses of all ceramic zirconia crowns, the guidelines for preparation design to optimize esthetic results, laboratory considerations, and luting protocols. Numerous treatment situations will be used to illustrate the various treatment possibilities.
